MTV Germany to move to pay-TV

MTV in Germany is to migrate from free-to-air to pay-TV only, while sister channel Viva will remain free-to-air.

Germany and Northern Europe chief Dan Ligtvoet confirmed to the Financial Times Deutschland that from next January, MTV will only be available as part of a digital cable, satellite or IPTV subscription, MTV Networks.

MTV said it had struck deals with a number of cable operators and with Sky Deutschland. MTV also plans to launch a new music-only service, MTV Brand New, as a pay-only service.
