BBC test broadcasts live Super Hi-Vision concert

The BBC last week test-broadcast a concert in the Super Hi-Vision format, developed by Japanese public broadcaster NHK.

The BBC broadcast a 6Music radio concert of The Charlatans to NHK TV in the format, which displays images at 16 times the resolution of existing HD.

The event was the first live transmission using the technology. The concert was shown on a 103-inch plasma screen in London and on a larger screen in Tokyo.

The BBC hopes to use the technology to show coverage of the 2012 Olympics on a number of giant viewing screens.
