Mediaset and Ziggo launch 3D services

Italian broadcaster Mediaset and Dutch cable operator Ziggo have separately announced the launch of 3D services on their digital platforms.

Beginning October 1, Mediaset will offer films in 3D on-demand via its Premium On Demand HD decoders to viewers equipped with 3D TVs. The decoder provides viewers with digital-terrestrial TV channels, as well as a constantly updated set of 50 films and TV series at any time, available on-demand. Mediaset will include one new 3D title every month, beginning with Beowulf and Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Other forthcoming titles will include Clash of the Titans, The Hole, Final Destination and Cats & Dogs: the Revenge of Kitty.

Dutch cabler Ziggo meanwhile has begun broadcasting a 3D demo channel with content supplied by SBS Broadcasting.

SBS has made a number of programmes from its Net 5 channel available in 3D for the demo service, which will also air a number of native 3D programmes. The channel will be available to Ziggo customers with a 3D TV and HD set-top.
