New sports channel launching on German cable

Germany’s Constantin Medien Group is launching a new sports channel in the country. Pay-TV channel Sport1 Plus will roll out in October on Kabel BW and on the Kabel Deutschland shortly after.

Constantin has secured a raft of TV rights for the new channel and in its first year of operation it will have coverage of the Handball Bundesliga, Basketball Bundesliga and MotoGP auto racing. Soccer coverage will include the English FA Cup, French Cup and the Coppa Italia. From next year, the channel will have the European Basketball Championships and 2011 Ice Hockey World Championships.
