Broadcom launches fast channel-change technology

Chipset manufacturer Broadcom has launched a new technology that it says can increase TV channel-change times by up to five times, and has named US cable operator Comcast as its first customer.

Broadcom says its FastRTV technology is available on a range of systems-on-a-chip for digital cable set-tops and universal digital transport adapters. Comcast is deploying the latter to convert analogue subscribers to standard-definition digital services.
