VimpelCom moves ahead with fixed-line and IPTV plans

Russian service provider VimpelCom has received permission to operate a fixed-line network in the Chelyabinsk region in south-eastern central Russia. The company is planning to expand its fixed-line activities in a number of regions by the end of this year, most recently launching in the autonomous republic of Udmurtia.

Last week VimpelCom broadband access director Alexei Krainov was reported as saying that VimpelCom planned to launch IPTV services in seven cities in Russia by the end of this year. The operator currently offers IPTV in Moscow and St Petersburg.
