Half of Zon subscribers now take triple-play

Almost half of Portuguese pay-TV leader Zon Multimédia’s subscriber base now take triple-play services from the operator.

Zon reported 571,900 triple-play subscribers at the end of the second quarter, taking penetration to 49%, up from 33.2% at the same point last year. Blended ARPU was €35.60, up 6.2% year-on-year.

The operator had 3.694 million revenue-generating units at the end of June, up 13.6% year-on-year. Basic cable and DTH subscribers declined slightly, but the number of double-play customers rose. The company experienced a slight slowdown in subscriber growth in the second quarter, in part due to price increases, it said. However, Zon said that this had been compensated by a significant improvement in profitability thanks to higher ARPU and low subscriber acquisition costs.

Zon reported revenues of €216.2m for the quarter, up 9.5% year-on-year. EBITDA was €76.2m, up 15.9%, and net income was €13.6m, up 41.7%.
