NPO to trial P2P technology for catch-up

Dutch public broadcaster NPO is to test the use of peer-to-peer technology to deliver online catch-up TV services.

NPO will make a player available from a new website, allowing users to download programmes for up to 10 days, according to local reports. The public broadcaster wants to test the technology in order to deliver more efficient use of bandwidth as well as to enable viewers to access shows offline. The broadcaster will evaluate the results after six months.
