Sky Sports News to launch HD channel

BSkyB has announced plans to enhance its Sky Sports News channel, including making it a pure pay-TV channel and launching a HD version.

Sky will invest in the editorial content of the channel and plans to launch a HD feed later this year. It said it would release further details on the new channel in the next few weeks.

Later this year, Sky Sports News will become an exclusive pay-TV channel, available on Sky, Virgin Media and Talk Talk TV. It will be replaced on DTT platform Freeview by Sky 3 Plus 1, a time-shifted version of the existing Freeview channel Sky 3. Sky said the move would allow it to benefit from continued growth in subscription revenues.
