Abertis acquires Axion to move into DTT

Spanish infrastructure provider Abertis has acquired audiovisual transmission firm Axion for €154m.

Abertis will us the acquisition to develop new digital-terrestrial TV services. The telco attempted to acquire Axion in 2008 but was thwarted by Spain’s competition commission. Axion controls 549 antennas, mainly in Andalusia. It is controlled by France’s TDF and generated an operating profit of €14.1m last year.
