ITV apologises for England World Cup own goal

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has issued an unreserved apology after a transmission error caused soccer fans watching its HD channel to miss the only goal scored by the English football team in their opening World Cup match against the US.

The error meant an advertisement for Hyundai cars was inadvertently broadcast during the game. About 1.5 million fans are thought to have been watching the HD feed. As well as issuing an apology, ITV blamed transmission company Technicolor for the error.
