Free to broadcast TF1 3D for World Cup

French IPTV provider Free has added commercial broadcaster TF1’s new 3D service to the Freebox TV offer.

Free is making the service available to all subscribers with a suitable internet connection equipped with a Freebox HD. The events-based 3D channel will offer five exclusive 3D matches during the World Cup including the opening South Africa v Mexico match, one of the semi-finals and the final, as well as one of the last 16 and a quarter final.

Separately, Iliad Telecom, operator of the Free quad-play platform, has organised a refinancing of its bank debt by securing a €1.4bn facility from BNP Paribas, Groupe Crédit Mutuel-CIC, Crédit Agricole and Investment Bank, Natixis, Société Générale Corporate and Investment Banking, West LB, ING and Raboban.

The five-year facility comprises a €600m redeemable tranche and an €800m revolving tranche. Iliad said the facility meant it had all the necessary financial resources to roll out its growth strategy.
