Canal Digital increases revenues despite subscriber losses

Canal Digital continued to lose DTH and cable TV subscribers during the first quarter of the year, but the Telenor-owned operator saw an increase in revenues and cable broadband customers.

DTH subscribers were down 42,000 year-on-year to 1,054,000 at the end of March, while cable TV customers were also down 18,000 to 721,000. However, revenues in the Canal Digital group were up NOK50m (€6.4m) year-on-year to NOK1.682bn, due to higher sales of additional services for cable customers and increased prices for DTH services. EBITDA rose to NOK221m from NOK137m a year earlier. The operator also added 11,000 cable internet customers during the first quarter, ending March with a total of 257,000 subscribers.
