Cypress forbids Cyta DTT bid

New legislation means Cypriot incumbent telco Cyta will not be allowed to operate the country’s DTT network.

State-run Cyta had made a bid to run the platform, but Cyprus’s parliament has now passed a law forbidding it to make a standalone bid, although it can compete as part of a consortium. The legislation leaves two players in the running – a consortium of local broadcasters and Greek company LRG
