Virgin Media introduces new quad-play, adds ITV time-shift channels

Virgin Media is to launch a range of new mobile phone offers next month to leverage its quad-play capability.

In what it describes as a UK first, Virgin Media will offer free home-phone-to-mobile calls for customers that choose a Virgin Mobile service as well as home entertainment services. The company will also offer a ‘pay monthly and SIM only’ offer from £10 (€11), and a new £0.08 per call tariff for pay-as-you-go customers.

Separately, commercial channel ITV has made its ‘plus one hour’ variants for ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 available on Virgin Media’s cable platform. The ITV1+1 service has yet to launch, however.

Last week, Virgin Media director of TV and online Alex Green told Informa’s IPTV World Forum in London that it planned to launch a new video-on-demand player similar to the BBC iPlayer. The Virgin Media Player is expected to give access to content online and via mobile devices.
