Sky acquisition speculation as Carphone Warehouse demerges TalkTalk

The UK’s Carphone Warehouse will demerge its phone retail and telecom provider arms today by listing broadband service provider TalkTalk separately on the stock market.

Shares in Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk will begin trading separately. Existing shareholders received one share in TalkTalk for every share in the old group, and one share in Carphone Warehouse for every two shares in the old group. The combined entity has a market capitalisation of about £1.7bn (€1.9bn). Some analysts believe that TalkTalk could become an acquisition target, possibly for BSkyB.
