Telecinco bags World Cup rights from Prisa

Spanish media group Prisa has sold the free-to-air TV rights for the 2010 World Cup to broadcaster Telecinco.

The deal covers the exclusive free-to-air broadcast of eight matches, including all games played by the Spanish national team. Prisa will also show the games on its pay-TV platform Digital Plus. Prisa bought the rights through its TV unit Sogecable in August 2008.
Telecinco acquired a majority stake in Prisa’s free-to-air channel Cuatro last year.
