Telefónica Spain added 48,725 pay-TV subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2009, taking its customer base to 702,980, up 14.8% year-on-year. It said that the Imagenio service now had a pay-TV market share of 17%, based on coverage that was limited to only 60% of Spanish households.
Telefónica said that 88% of its Spanish customers now took double or triple-play services. The companyÂs broadband base in Spain stood at 5.5 million, up 4.4%.
Globally, Telefónica had 2.5 million pay-TV customers at the end of 2009, up 9.8% year-on-year. The company provides TV services in Spain, the Czech Republic, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina. Global broadband customers stood at 13.5 million, up 8.2%.
Telefónica as a whole posted revenues of Â56.7bn for the year, and operating income before depreciation and amortisation of Â15.3bn.
