Liberty Global-backed pay-TV operator UPC has consolidated its European DTH activities. The DTH services in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania are being centralised under the UPC DTH banner. The new entity will be based in Luxembourg. UPC said it will upgrade its DTH services in 2010, adding new channels and high-definition TV offerings.
The announcement coincides with UPC Directs deal for satellite capacity from Norwegian satellite services company Telenor on its 1° West platform, to which it is migrating its services from the Astra platform. SES Astra will continue to provide uplink facilities from Luxembourg.
