iPlayer hits weekly record requests in January

The BBC’s iPlayer recorded a weekly record of 23.8 million requests for TV programmes during 4-10 January. The online on-demand platform recorded a total of 120.3 million views in January.

The BBC’s latest iPlayer stats show that Virgin Media’s cable platform accounted for 19.8 million requests last month. Around 60% of iPlayer users are male and the majority aged under-55 years. Games consoles Nintendo Wii increased its proportion of requests to 4% while the PlayStation 3 accounted for 8%.

The most popular programmes in January were Top Gear, Doctor Who, Gavin and Stacey, Mock the Week and Tracey Beaker Returns.
