There were a total of 1,898,008 fixed internet subscribers in Portugal at the end of 2009, according to data from the countrys communications regulator Anacom. That figure is up 13.2% year-on-year.
Portugal Telecom ended the year with the biggest market share at 44.5%, up from 41.6% at the end of 2008. Zon Multimedia/TV Cabo was the second largest ISP, with a market share of 32.2%, up from 27.9%. The third largest ISP, Group Sonaecom (which includes providers Sonaecom and Tele 2) lost ground with a market share down to 9.2% from 14.1%.
ADSL was the most common access technology last year, representing 57% of connections.
