Prisa CEO sees no more Mediaset deals

Spanish media group Prisa is not planning any more deals with Italian broadcaster Mediaset. In an interview with Italian newspaper La Stampa, Prisa’s CEO Juan Luis Cebrian said “the merger finishes here”.

The comments follow the decision taken last December by Mediaset’s Spanish broadcaster subsidiary Telecinco to take majority control of Prisa’s free-to-air channel Cuatro and take a 22% stake in its pay-TV platform Digital Plus in a €1.05bn deal.

Despite debts of about €5bn, Cebrian also said the company had no plans to sell the 57% stake it holds in Digital Plus.

In the same interview, Cebrian said he would like to collaborate with Digital Plus’s minority shareholder, Telefónica, to launch HDTV services.
