Virgin Media has revealed record results for its video-on-demand service last year, with over 750 million views a 50% increase on the previous year.
The UK cable operator said over 59% of its 3.7 million TV customers regularly used the service, an increase of over a quarter of a million homes in a year. In December, there were 76 million on-demand views, up 6% on the previous month.
Since launching the BBCÂs catch-up service iPlayer on Virgin Media in May 2008, it has received almost 300 million views, with a monthly record of 20 million views in December 2009. ITVÂs version, ITV Player, had 25 million views over the final three months of the year.
The operator also reported that over 11 million movies were watched on-demand during 2009. December saw a 29% increase on November. The most popular title in December was The Hangover, followed by Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince.
