EC rejects French telecom tax

The European Commission has said France’s plan for a tax on telecom operators to finance public broadcaster France Télévisions is an administrative charge incompatible with European law, and has opened infringement proceedings against France.

The French government has two months to reply to the EC, after which the latter can issue an opinion on the matter. If France fails to act after that, the Commission can take the case to the European Court of Justice.
