US cable operator completes HD video over 4G wireless trial

US cable operator Cox Communications says that it has successfully completed trials of voice calls and high-definition video streaming using 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless technology.

Cox completed the trials over AWS and 700MHz spectrum that it acquired via FCC auctions in 2006 and 2008 at a cost of US$550m (€390m). The company tested the 4G applications in Phoenix and San Diego. Cox is currently deploying wireless services using the 3G CDMA standard in Virginia, California and Nebraska.
