Global cable operator Liberty Global is expected to finalise its acquisition of German cabler Unitymedia after the European Commission cleared the deal.
Liberty Global agreed to pay 2bn in cash and to assume Â1.5m in Unitymedia’s debt to buy the company from investor groups BC Partners and Apollo Management. The move will bolster Liberty Global’s share in Germany, where Unity Media has 4.5 million basic cable TV subscribers and 470,000 digital TV subs.
