Satellite operator Eutelsat has signed an agreement with satellite communications company Intersputnik for long-term lease of capacity on its new W7 bird located at 36° East.
Intersputnik has leased 16 transponders for the entire in-orbit life of W7, progressively joining over the next two years the four transponders already leased on Eutelsats W4 satellite. The company will use the additional capacity to support the expansion of digital TV in Russia. In particular, it will provide new resources for the Gazprom Media Group to increase the range of channels offered on the NTV Plus and Tricolor platforms. The transponders will also enable new satellite broadband access to be provided to homes beyond the range of terrestrial broadband networks.
