EBU launches new HDTV harmonization project

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has kicked off a new project to further harmonisation and interoperability for HDTV production standards (P/HIPS).

EBU members and representatives from Avid, GVG/Thomson, Panasonic and Sony are meeting to discuss the project, which will focus on interoperability with the Material Exchange Format (MXF), emerging compression formats suitable to support 1080p50 HD video, metadata generated at the creation point and ingested in the workflow, and 3G-SDI and the enhancement of interoperability for production.

The overall project will be chaired by Christoph Nufer of the IRT in Munich.
