BBC hails record year for red button

An average of 11 million people used UK public broadcaster the BBC’s red-button interactive service each week in 2009, making it the service’s most successful year ever, according to the corporation.

A new six-part animated Doctor Who series, Dreamland, available via the red button, was watched by almost one million people, while just over one million watched three exclusive tracks from Robbie Williams available via the red button on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross show.

The red-button based iPlayer catch-up service via Freesat saw its beta launch two weeks ago.
