Portugal Telecom has chosen fibre Ethernet transceiver provider Firecomms to provide its optical fibre networking product, OptoLock, to enable home-networking of IPTV services.
Firecomms OptoLock and Mitsubishi RayonÂs new OptoHome fibre for home-networking applications will be used for a series of trials, including lab trials with technical analysis followed by field installations, across Portugal. OptoLock-enabled IP set-top boxes provided by Cisco and home gateway equipment provided by Thomson will also be used in the trials, along with Homefibre multiport POF switches and Netgear media converters.
