Romanian telco Romtelecom has launched IPTV services in 10 cities.
Dolce Interactiv will be available to customers that are connected to Romtelecoms broadband offer with a minimum download speed of 8Mbps. The IPTV service will offer a range of interactive services including the ability to pause and record live broadcasts. Romtelecom will also offer a video-on-demand service.
The service will initially be available in Bucharest, Iasi, Constanta, Timisoara, Bacau, Cluj Napoca, Piatra Neamt, Sibiu, Ploiesti and Braila. Subscribers will be able to benefit from a 100% discount until the end of March, with the first set-top being made available for free and additional receivers being made available for Â99. For DVR-enabled boxes, Romtelecom is offering a 50% discount, with the box available for Â99.50.
RomtelecomÂs existing DTH pay-TV service, Dolce, was launched three years ago. The service currently has about 850,000 customers, despite a slow-down in the rate of acquisition this year.
Separately, Romtelecom has struck an agreement with technology provider Ericsson to outsource network management services for a period of five years.
