Romtelecom launches IPTV in 10 cities

Romanian telco Romtelecom has launched IPTV services in 10 cities.

Dolce Interactiv will be available to customers that are connected to Romtelecom’s broadband offer with a minimum download speed of 8Mbps. The IPTV service will offer a range of interactive services including the ability to pause and record live broadcasts. Romtelecom will also offer a video-on-demand service.

The service will initially be available in Bucharest, Iasi, Constanta, Timisoara, Bacau, Cluj Napoca, Piatra Neamt, Sibiu, Ploiesti and Braila. Subscribers will be able to benefit from a 100% discount until the end of March, with the first set-top being made available for free and additional receivers being made available for €99. For DVR-enabled boxes, Romtelecom is offering a 50% discount, with the box available for €99.50.

Romtelecom’s existing DTH pay-TV service, Dolce, was launched three years ago. The service currently has about 850,000 customers, despite a slow-down in the rate of acquisition this year.

Separately, Romtelecom has struck an agreement with technology provider Ericsson to outsource network management services for a period of five years.
