BBC Worldwide placed on sale list

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the British public broadcaster, could be up for sale after the company was put on a list of government-owned assets that are on the block.

The distributor has been added to Her Majesty’s Government Operational Efficiency Programme Asset Portfolio report, a list of assets that the British government is considering selling.

However, the BBC Trust, the body that governs the division rejected the report. “We note the Government’s report. Worldwide is not up for sale. The recent commercial review did not set out to consider ownership, but to improve the operation of Worldwide within its current ownership structure,” it noted.
