FIFA and Sony to deliver World Cup in 3D

FIFA plans to produce up to 25 World Cup matches in 3D next year in partnership with Sony.

At next year’s World Cup to be held in South Africa, FIFA will produce a range of matches using Sony’s 3D professional cameras.

During the tournament, FIFA will host International FIFA Fan Fest public viewing events in seven cities – Berlin, London, Mexico City, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Rome, and Sydney – where attendees will be able to watch promotional highlight trailers of the World Cup in 3D at Sony’s commercial displays. Ahead of the release of the official 3D World Cup 2010 film, people will be able to watch promotional trailers at retail outlets that sell Sony products around the world, including Sony stores. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment plans to produce and distribute the official 3D film on Blu-ray and other formats.
