Music subscription and online storage could benefit ISPs

Music subscription services and online storage provide fixed-line broadband service providers with a way to reduce churn and increase customer loyalty, according to a report by Informa Telecoms & Media.

Informa surveyed 10 key service areas, which were scored against 22 criteria based on the benefits thy could bring to operators and found that music subscription services such as Telenor’s Wimp or Virgin Media’s proposed service provided an attractive alternative to piracy for subscribers. The report also found that online storage represented a major opportunity or operators, particularly as next-generation broadband rollouts progressed.
