Swiss telco Swisscom has begun work on a fibre network in the Canton of Fribourg.
Construction work has begun on a pilot project to introduce fibre to Fribourg in what Swisscom claims is the the first partnership of its kind between a canton, an electricity supplier and a telecoms company. Electricity supplier Groupe E is also involved in the project, which is based on an open, multi-fibre infrastructure, which Swisscom said avoids a structural monopoly on the fibre-optic network.
