Chinas international channel CCTV 9, RussiaÂs Vesti and ItalyÂs TivuSAT each won a special award at this yearÂs EutelsatÂs Hot Bird awards ceremony.
The event, held in Venice on November 20, celebrated the success of thematic satellite channels, with over 150 channels entering the competition. The peopleÂs choice award went to HungaryÂs Duna Televsion, with other wins for ItalyÂs SkySports24 (Sports), Sky THG24 (News Excellence) and Yes Italia (National Window), along with the UKÂs BBC Persian (News) and M-Net Action (Fiction).
The HDTV award went to HD Suisse of Switzerland, while Russia saw wins for TV Nanny (ChildrenÂs), Zakon-TV (Culture/Education) and Vremya (Documentaries). Polish channel Wojna i Pokoj won the Cinema award, with GermanyÂs Body in Balance scooping the Lifestyle award and FranceÂs Trace Tropical taking the Music award.
