Multi-play and YouSee boost TDC performance

Danish telco TDC had 1.225 million TV customers at the end of September up 8% year-on-year. The figure includes both cable and IPTV subscribers. TDC reported 148,000 multiplay customers for its fixed-line network at the end of period from a standing start at the beginning of the year. Overall, the company had 1.295 million retail broadband customers at the end of September, up 9.6%.

TDC-owned cable operator YouSee, which provides TV services to about 45% of the country’s households, performed well, growing its revenues by 10.8% to DKK2.652bn (€356m) for the first nine months of the year.

Revenue from digital pay-TV services (YouSee Plus) grew by 63.2% to DKK 155m, while revenue from free-to-air cable TV (YouSee Clear) rose by 9.8% to DKK1.813bn. During the third quarter YouSee took the step of removing digital encryption from free-to-air channels ahead of terrestrial analogue switchover at the beginning of this week, allowing analogue customers to upgrade to digital without extra charges.

Internet revenues grew by 13.1% to DKK537m, while fixed telephony sales grew by 30% to DKK52m. YouSee reported EBITDA of DKK847m for the nine months, up 21.5%.

TDC as a whole reported revenues of DKK26.846bn for the nine months, up 0.5%. Net income rose by 7.3% to DKK3.25bn.
