UK pay-TV operator BSkyB could launch interactive TV specialist OpenTVs sixth generation of middleware, OpenTV Core 3, on some of its set-top boxes after both parties extended their long-running relationship.
Sky has licensed OpenTVÂs patents and other intellectual property rights to support ongoing development of the companyÂs digital television platform. Both companies will also work on a proof of concept that could lead to the deployment of OpenTV Core 3 on some of SkyÂs set-top boxes.
OpenTV has been a technology provider to Sky since the launch of its digital TV service in 1998.
