Thomson signs LiveTV airline deal

Video technology company Thomson has signed a deal with LiveTV for the development of a live TV broadcast system for aircraft.

Based on Thomson’s IPTV-based satellite TV distribution technology, the solution enables the satellite content to be converted into video-over-IP content for distribution and viewing on individual seat-back screens. Thomson said its system enables LiveTV to offer hundreds of channels in digital quality, as well as providing features including EPG. The system also enables live channels generated within the plane, such as navigation information, to be inserted.
