Astra reveals HD Plus details

Satellite operator SES Astra has announced that its new high-definition platform HD Plus will be free for the first 12 months when it launches next month.

The service will be available from November 1, offering channels from broadcasters RTL and Vox with Sat.1, ProSieben and kabel eins to be added in January. Customers who buy a new HD Plus decoder will receive the service for free for the first 12 months, after which time they can “recharge” their smartcard for €50. This can be done online, over the phone or in retail stores.

By the end of the year, Humax, Technisat, Technotrend Görler and Videoweb will launch six models of HD Plus receivers. The service will also support receivers using the CI Plus standard, including TV sets with integrated receivers.
