Eutelsat passes 100 HDTV channel mark

Satellite operator Eutelsat now broadcasts over 100 HDTV channels. The Paris-based operator said that Sky Sport 1 HD from pay-TV operator Sky Italia was the 100th channel to join the platform.

The number of HD channels on Eutelsat has grown tenfold since 2006 and has more than doubled since June last year, the operator said. Eutelsat claims a 42% share of the 243 HD channels it says are now available in Europe and the Middle East, with the Hot Bird position at 13° East accounting for 40% of HD channels on Eutelsat satellites. Eutelsat also broadcasts two dedicated HD bouquets from Eurobird 9A.
