BSkyB and Discovery end feud with ad-sales deal

Thematic channel provider Discovery Communications Europe has awarded Sky Media a four year deal that will see the advertising sales division of UK pay-TV operator BSkyB representing Discovery as its sole airtime advertising sales agent in the UK across its portfolio of 13 channels, including Discovery Channel.

According to the Guardian newspaper, the deal could be worth more than £200m (€217m) in total. Discovery’s premium channels, which include Animal Planet and Discovery Travel and Living, make up over 15% of the TV advertising airtime that Sky Media offers to advertisers. Discovery’s portfolio of factual, lifestyle and entertainment channels currently reach over 2.5 million people per day.

The deal marks an end to the year-long legal battle between Sky and Discovery relating to the terms of the existing contract, which expires at the end of the year.
