Comstar-UTS to pilot digital TV via MMDS in Ivanovo

Russian service provider Comstar-UTS has announced its intention to launch a pilot digital MMDS wireless digital TV service in the city of Ivanovo in central European Russia.

Comstar said it had received the necessary licences and permits for the service, which increase the number of broadcast TV channels available via MMDS from 22 to 33, expand network coverage and introduce new services including an EPG and online account management, as well as enhanced security. Comstar’s existing MMDS subscribers in Ivanovo will receive a new set-top box at no extra cost. The operator currently has about 75,000 subscribers in the city, of which 6,500 receive services via MMDS.
