Gol TV signs up customers as Spanish pay-DTT wins approval

About 15,000 subscribers have signed up for Mediapro’s sport channel Gol TV via Spanish digital-terrestrial pay-TV, some 18 days after broadcasts on the platform began, according to local press. Separately, Spain’s Congress has ratified the decree authorising the launch of pay services on the digital-terrestrial platform.

Beyond the digital-terrestrial figure, a further 650,000 customers can receive Gol TV via one of the seven other pay-TV operators that provide the service. A special service for bars and clubs, Gol Bar, has about 3,000 subscribers, according to the reports.

The Spanish Congress has ratified the authorisation of pay services on DTT by 183 votes to 150 with six abstentions.

Despite fears that the introduction of the service had been rushed and that reception equipment would not be ready in time, industry minister Miguel Sebastián claimed that, according to estimates provided by the industry, there would be about 250,000 devices that can receive pay services on the platform in the market by the end of the month.
