Telekom Austria launches home networking services

Telekom Austria is launching a new home networking solution that will enable subscribers to its IPTV service aonTV to access content stored on their computers and mobile phones via the TV.

The new aonTV MediaBox can connect the TV set with PCs and mobile phones to enable images, video and music stored on them to be accessed on the TV set. The MediaBox also enables access to Telekom Austria‘s online hard disk, with a data limit of 1GB per household offered free of charge. An upgrade to 50GB is available for €4.90 per month. Any stored image, video or music file stored this way can also be directly retrieved and accessed on the TV. Customers can also grant and share access to their stored data to other people.

The MediaBox service will be made available free of charge to existing aonTV subscribers. A software upgrade on existing set-tops will mean users will not need a new decoder and Telekom Austria said every set-top will be automatically updated by the end of September.
