UPC Broadband will launch a range of energy efficient set-tops to subscribers in the Netherlands. The Liberty Global-backed cabler has teamed with set-top and technology vendors Thomson, Pace and Cisco and will roll out new boxes and update existing ones with new power-saving software.
Deployment of the new, greener set-tops has already started in Switzerland, Ireland and Poland and will commence in the Netherlands from the fourth quarter. The new boxes will use under 1 Watt in standby mode compared with 5.5 Watt for an average set-top.
