Zon lambasts regulator over fine

Portuguese triple-play provider Zon Multimédia has said it will appeal against a fine of €8m imposed on it by the Portuguese competition authority related to legal proceedings dating back to 2002, when Zon was still part of Portugal Telecom Group.

Zon said the reasons given for the fine, which relates to a finding by the authority that various companies with Portugal Telecom exploited their dominant positions in the wholesale and retail broadband markets, were completely unfounded. The company also criticised the authority for only now deciding on a seven year-old case that dated from a time when Zon had a completely different ownership structure.
