Spanish telco Telefónica is still interested tin taking a minority stake in Prisa’s pay-TV platform Digital Plus with a majority partner, according to press reports.
Deputy director-general Julio Linares reportedly said that Telefónica would be interested in participating if an opportunity presented itself. Prisa rejected an offer from Telefónica and Vivendi for Digital Plus earlier this year.
Linares’ comments follow the breakdown of merger talks between Vivendi and rival Mediapro and the approval by the Spanish government of the launch of pay-TV services on the country’s digital-terrestrial platform, developments that are generally perceived to have weakened Prisa’s position.
