Teracom maintains operating profit despite pay-TV competition

Swedish transmission services and pay-TV operator Teracom turned in operating profit of SEK259m (€25.4m) for the first half of the year, in line with last year’s SEK256m. The company said it had managed to sustain operating margins despite costs incurred through international expansion thanks to an efficiency programme.

Teracom reported revenues of SEK1.635bn, up from SEK1.589bn year-on-year. Net profit was SEK142m, down from SEK205m.

Teracom operates the Boxer digital-terrestrial pay-TV platform in Sweden, which has been losing subscribers in the face of competition. Teracom said Boxer had suffered a slight decline in Sweden in the first half, but had experienced growth in Denmark, where it began operations in the first quarter. Teracom acquired Finnish pay-TV provider Plus TV in June, which has about 276,000 subscribers.
