PT nears half a million Meo subs

Portugal Telecom (PT) ended June with 443,000 pay-TV customers, having added 59,000 during the second quarter. Just over 56% of PT’S ADSL subscriber base took TV services under the Meo brand.

The operator reported 29,000 net ADSL additions in the quarter, giving a total of 781,000 at the end of June. ARPU increased slightly year-on-year to €29.90, as a result of higher penetration of both TV and ADSL, despite a lower contribution from voice revenues.

Operating revenues from PT’s wireline business decreased by 0.6% year-on-year to €473m. However, revenues from the pay-TV and ADSL retail business increased 69.2% year-on-year, which PT said was in line with the strategy of offering triple-play and dual-play services.

Meo offers more than 110 TV channels and over 2,000 VOD titles. PT reported that over 50% of Meo’s IPTV customers have paid for VOD titles, consuming on average 2.7 movies per month.
